Where do I start well the lentil soup had chunks of mushrooms in it and was not like any lentil soup I've tasted before(I didn't like it) then there was the babaganoush absolutely the worst tasting I've ever had. The rest of the food a steak swarma wasn't bad but also wasn't that good I don't know if it was a bad day or not but I'm not satisfied with the meal one bit and won't try again best of luck on improving.
The food was outstanding, I like the home made sauces and the way the food tastes, this is excellent !!
I ordered this food a few months ago while I was in the hospital. I loved the food. I went back and ate at the restaurant. Was I surprised to see the owner. She was not middle eastern at all! I would have never imagined she cooked this delicious food. Such a nice person with her heart in her food.
I've ordered at least 5 times since. I'd order often if I wasn't on a budget. This is the place that if I have to splurge I go here. Everything is delicious and fresh and you know it's home-made.
Tiba has been a neighborhood favorite for years. The food is delicious. My mainstay is the combination platter, which at $20 is dinner for two with leftovers. They do an excellent job of making yummy food for different dietary restrictions; not a lot of places can feed my friend group with some gluten-free, some vegan, and some omnivores as well as Tiba does. The owner often works the front herself and is exceptionally sweet. I've always experienced the location as friendly (rather than merely tolerant) toward queer and trans people.
When the pandemic came, Tiba lost its in-person dining and tried converting to takeout with a little convenience store. That must not have worked out, but it came back with a new owner. The prices (which had been very low) jumped up slightly but still are not high. The food stayed excellent. A few dishes changed slightly, and for the first month or two I think they were experimenting a little, but mostly it stayed the same. The baklava is also good.
I usually get takeout. For dining in, you currently get trays and plasticware as opposed to plates and silverware, and you have to buy bottled water instead of having glasses and a pitcher. These are my only dings, and I'm not letting that affect the overall 5-star impression because there's no way I'd willingly bring down this spot's average.
The new owner is clearly putting her heart and soul into the place, but the construction that's lasting for most of this year along Lawrence has got to be rough on its foot traffic. I hope very much that people keep ordering from here and that it stays open for years to come, because it remains one of the best restaurants of its kind in the area.
OMG! I JUST READ SOME COMMENTS THAT ARE DOWN RIGHT SAD.
PLEASE BELIEVE ME WHEN I SAY THIS IS THE BEST FOOD EVER.
I've been here a few times and it doesn't disappoint me. I order for pick up and my son is amazed that the owner is not middle eastern. We live this food. It's fresh and I know she cooks with love. I guess we can't please everyone 🤦♀️
Albany Park has a vast array of great Mediterranean restaurants, and this is one of them! Really enjoyed this place and will be part of the rotation
This used to be my favorite neighborhood spot before it was bought out by the new owners
The menu has changed, the quality of some things has fallen and theres a lot of "if it aint broke dont fix it" changes that made things worse. Its also more expensive. The food is still okay but if you are expecting what you read in older reviews, prepare to be disappointed under the new owners.
It used to be this super authentic, gem of a hole in the wall spot with great portions and prices owned by a middle eastern family. Its now just another spot making "decent" Mediterranean food. Its a shame but business is business
The food bowls are absolutely amazing. This is some of the best food I've had in a while, and I don't just want to limit it to a category. Please do yourself a favor and get a bowl with an amazing mixture of flavors and textures.
Place is cute and clean. Service was great.
